There is always a room torn open. I do the work myself, badly at first, then less badly. Framing, tile, trim, a subfloor I will not discuss.
Renovation teaches the same lesson as shipping software: the demo is easy, the finish work is where the time goes, and hiding a bad measurement never works for long.
